[0:00]" Tell me how did you get to become known as movie."
[0:03]" Her. Eyes became -- because. I'd been operating about movies for for many years for a number of publications and I ever few books. And also I was on the radio in the Philadelphia market for public yours."
[0:17]" Okay so -- a little bit about your. Company movies unlimited."
[0:23]" Movies unlimited is. Probably the oldest existing video retail or him in the year world. And we've been around for thirty years. We started has so little store in the northeast section of Philadelphia and -- also was a mail order company. And we specialize. In all movies and movies are part defined in rare movies. And now we have a web -- movies some limited dot com we also publish. They used -- under page catalogue each year with all the dvd releases. Would be doing it for a long time. We have many Hollywood actors and directors as our. Customers and -- sort of known as one of the authorities on movies in dvds in the country."
[1:09]" You love movies and why do you think most of us do."
[1:13]" movies. There either form of escapism. You when escape what's going on every day in the world and forget your problems in the problems that are around you. Or if you want to relate to -- the problems. This sort of escape hatch and also something that brings you closer. The people that have similar problems that you could see in the movies and say hey I'm not the only one with these problems. So I think it works to fold -- movies from the in the for a lot of people. And and other things it what movies do especially the older movies is they can next somewhere. With your childhood in which family people collect movies that they want to see something. Beats him and they were younger and they want to remove that experience or they remember that there. Mother -- father of -- certain movie and they want to see what they low and so I think there's. Some sort of connection that goes beyond just watching in movies so emotional. Connection -- attachment to film the people."
[2:14]" It's interesting when -- it's if people want to either forget their problems or relate. The headline in the globe movie section. -- it was back to the good old ways and I guess it's as the new season of film takes its cues from past glories. So I guess in the way the world does now people are looking to escape to. Somewhat better time."
[2:37]" I think so I think you'll find in times. Where there's things going wrong in the world that. Movies to the most popular. The depression are the movies were at their peak in terms of popularity in terms of how many movies how it would need. And also in terms of quality of movies the quality in these really exceptional. And now all I mean we just. Got past this because summer the public with their witness and things are not going great in the world right now. And I think it's says it's cyclical thing -- That's what happens -- people -- ago for escapism. Or what it's set to connect in and see that you know they're not the only people with these problems of the movies and I think this summer might have. Reflected some of the problems out there."
[3:23]" So what we talk as you have such a hands on line -- history now what what you stand down kind of putting you on the spot of you say are at the top five films that start women our unit films that women -- Okay Tom and me from me and and I am not an aficionado by. Any means that normal rate comes to mind and I think that's been quoted recently because if Sarah Palin is he -- normal array when it but he didn't get that. But the idea that's her -- a mountain out out out yet yet I -- yet at least get into politics yeah and canals cut. I didn't quite means that about. I -- to the popularity and for some --"
[4:07]" That's a that's a good choice certainly it's an Independent woman that's sort of box the system in. And here's against expectations. And she's a leader you know when in normal wage normal race she was you know the union. So well yeah I think normal raise an excellent choice for agree women's movie. I think -- in -- weeks. Is another you know is as a renegade as they weren't a lot of people. So the sense of empowerment from that film you know the way the women were treated and how they responded to that in. Although the ending wasn't very favorable for element -- I think they they did things on their own terms. So well you know like sort of coal element we've Bosnian bombing incident Bonnie and Clyde. So I think animals we uses another. Good choice for that. Another good choice for -- women's movie I think is one that's the remakes actually coming out this week called the women. And that's got a really big cast of current actresses but the original. Is when -- original war. Women's movies and they had a terrific camps. With Joan Crawford Norma Shearer. And Rosalind Russell and sort of a woman's scorn and figures and a way to kind of get back at that. Her husband has scored her of that and other means that the women's -- dates back to the earliest times of movies and there are lots of good old these. Certainly a lot of movies to Katharine Hepburn -- and show an Independent woman it's like the and has no problem. Going up against the man -- teaching -- Spencer Tracy. One year -- Monique. In those films there are classics and MarketWatch there was again and again. So the idea of Independent strong woman. You know well writing TV he can something that's been. Around quite awhile. The recent swim their recent women's movies favorites. I would say yeah. You know romantic comedies like when Harry met Sally. You know was very popular and women and men seemed like that too. Terms of endearment you know work the tear Jerker. But that seems to be you know what crimes woman's movie -- people could relate to the relationship. Between Debra Winger with the order and the mother played by Shirley McClaine. Answer the men so the relationships with men and that there -- whole bunch of men in this film to the various stages of their relationship. So I would say those are kind of the top women's movies so. You know becomes the mines from the and for a lot of people with mental."
[6:56]" steel magnolias I think is this another one of which you --"
[7:01]" Oh yes yes that that is another good one and that's that's such a great camp. Women across the board all ages. You know lot of cash and where where's likes Alex fueled -- caucus. -- how important. So you know that is another. Good -- You know Independent women in the room. And four weddings and a funeral as a charming. You read -- people. It seemed like a lot higher higher graduated in a couple of times. You know different sitting having the year in which I think. People like battle to there's so many remakes that. I think they're good people are just the Hollywood better -- just looking at a movie that wasn't a classic and destroying it better and it's tough to get it to the same level of classic film."
[7:59]" I'm thinking of Meryl Streep which -- say she's the greatest actress of all time line of all time but modern time and what did you think of her stint in. -- media gave it."
[8:12]" Good in moment. You know shortly it better which appears brought -- no I think she did very well and you could you know you just help achievement surpassing its time you know doing something different and -- I I think she's the greatest modern actress she can slip in and out back and easily simply comedy. To complete drama. So incredibly personal shall take chances you know once more move -- more port. So I think she is the greatest. -- captain harper Randy I think she's right up there among the greatest. We. And that indeed it's too. You know chic -- She was terrific almost everything's received news of the Korean Merle -- definitely yeah. Up in the past -- actress work."
[9:01]" It is interesting with one as their refuse I read because she got some mixed reviews I enjoyed the movie but they said this is the first film -- me that you actually. You know didn't just act from dead the next. But you know again I I this somebody who enjoyed her but I don't know that everybody upstaging me here at the actresses come. Many middle aged actresses. Kind of complaining that there aren't many good roles for them do you think god that's going to change or is changing."
[9:35]" You know and that's the tough question I I don't. Think it's changing. And it's assist society thing I think. You know when it acted sort of an article on this awhile ago for entertainment weekly the arm. The actresses. Now what seems like people want to see actresses. Has -- almost. You know -- younger women when you look back when Katharine Hepburn Bette Davis and you see how old they were making a question movies they were the same age. As you know -- actresses -- like Jessica Alba. You know but they were playing women. Then so it seems like. The yes studios are fixated on this young. Thing for their demographics because its younger demographic go to the movies. So I think it's a -- A tough road for an actress that's that's approaching middle age and that's why you see people like Sally Field going to TV. You know to to get you know better roles are for. Actresses doing HBO movies -- Lifetime movies -- movies for cable. So I can't say it's getting better. But. In dealt with by the same token TV and cable or offering them better opportunities. To to do their stuff just not on the big screen."
[10:57]" I think it's also like you say up a whole cultural fixation -- that I'm youth in general my chest stomach the movies -- one thing feeds into the next. But the whole paparazzi. Culture -- so to speak so who would you say. I think younger actresses we should be watching now."
[11:18]" Well I think Penelope Cruz. It is really impressive she's impressive in Vicky Cristina Barcelona. I've sort of been. Hot -- with her in the past but. You know Arctic she's terrific -- that and in some of the foreign countries -- with speaker normal divorce she's really -- So I don't know she does her best work overseas and sort of those later worked here -- or less support worker but I think she's really. You know strong. I think one -- or win an Oscar. I think Hilary Swank. Has proven herself even if she's not that young. Now -- you know relatively speaking that she's very personal ones. You know she can play. Pretty much anything as well and yes she seems to beat will take chances you know meters of boxer. Somebody used discuss missile as a man there. In order to Oscar winning films. And there's an act there's a small film out apple -- river I assume it's playing out there. Within Pakistan Melissa Leo. Who's been around -- walls been on TV. And she's really great I think she's gonna get an Oscar nomination for that and I think you know here are rolling that even in the small Independent film can only help you get. Stronger and bigger roles I think she's won a book for. And I think and have to -- As well you know she's been around long time but she's only I think in about 25 or 26. I think she can she hasn't gotten several strong dramatic yet. By that she will soon and I think you'll see that she can ruin. You know. She can it would play pretty much anything as well she's in a new film coming out. It's could get her Oscar nomination. Directed by Jonathan Damian and with Debra Winger -- we haven't seen in awhile. And I think you'll see that she's gonna get her dramatic. Produce missiles that are right at the top."
[13:30]" What's the movie's name to manifest."
[13:33]" And."
[13:33]" It's cold."
[13:37]" Rachel getting married. Yes and it reminds me a little bit of -- film Margot at the wedding. It came out last year but it's actually stronger. And and comes up a few weeks. And the basic Debra Winger to -- out. She plays a woman who's had abuse problems and she comes home. For the waiting -- her sister. And sort of sparks -- Between the family members. And just don't expect her -- Sort of put it out there dramatically -- used to seeing her in you know the devil wears Prada and gets more in the prince of stars but here -- which you released. Can hold their own and it's really their wingers. Always been terrific the disposal work that these things."
[14:29]" There any other women's movies they should look for anything that you know coming up."
[14:33]" Yet there's a lot actually. I haven't seen all of them but I know there's there's a few. Coming out and I think it -- the success of sex in the city really. You know will jumpstart this. Sort of news cycle when it's movies because of me so much money -- repeat business people want to see if you were fans of the so in September alone. There's a musical productions coming out here -- And -- bombings which is period. Two piece. About the -- of it keeps century aristocrats. And her marriage to do crisply favorite lines that that's one. And there's lights in Rutan. Which is based on the book missing people with a -- notebook which was epic woman's movie. And that's what that Richard Gere in -- handling. Third time they've worked together. So those are two with a bigger. Films that are coming now. That are geared to women I think there's quite a bit more into the into the new year."
[15:39]" Point so might like to recommend that just came out on DV the which is helped Helen hunt's directing debut keep seeing this court bench fail me and it's very good it's -- She rooted sheet she -- route the it's based on the books which he adapted it and she directed extortion. And she plays. A woman who will. Whose mother died she she -- it was her adoptive mother and her real mother sort of comes out of nowhere plea by that n
