Play from 0:00[0:00]" We're not. Projecting a huge decrease were projecting a slight decrease in the number of Americans traveling during the upcoming Labor Day holiday weekend. We're looking at a decrease of about point 9%. So nearly. 34 point four million Americans will travel at least fifty miles or more from home this weekend. And that's down as they said point 9% from the 34 point seven million who traveled last -- We're looking at a decline of about 1% not quite 1% and almost 1%."

Play from 0:32[0:32]" And I'm imagining that the reason is because of the economy and the price of gasoline and the cost of travel."

Play from 0:38[0:38]" I think you're right on the money I mean certainly gas prices are still almost a dollar hired and they were at this time last year. Last year we were looking at an average in Massachusetts and about two dollars and 63. Cents. Slightly higher and that in Rhode Island about two dollars and 68 cents at this time last year. So certainly -- and people are more conservation minded right now they have been driving last. And we -- we also have seen belt tightening as a result of the economy we don't know about the problems in the housing industry in the banking industry and so on."

Play from 1:11[1:11]" Are they are finding other modes of transportation to take besides the automobile."

Play from 1:16[1:16]" Well they certainly are in fact we're finding that public transportation. Is up about 12%. Amtrak is certainly doing a fabulous business right now there's actually talk of you know needing to get more trains running in order to accommodate the demand. At least one point eight million people plan to travel by train bus or other mode of transportation which is up twelve point 5% over last year."

Play from 1:43[1:43]" What I find interesting though as you said even though of the of the travels down 1%. From last year. It's still you know we still want to get away for a --"

Play from 1:54[1:54]" You know I think what we really see is the fact that Americans do value their vacations. And they are going on vacation. In spite of what's happening with gas prices I think they're conserving more on day to day basis perhaps. So that they can behave that way financially to still take that vacation. Eleven point 3% of the US population will still be traveling this upcoming Labor Day weekend which is wonderful. I think people are taking advantage of the fact that in New England we have so many wonderful destinations including -- including parts including the Berkshire's close to home. -- justice for a fraction of that tank of gas as opposed to an entire --"

Mary McGuire of AAA of Southern New England has this weel's survey.

listen

[0:05]..." A gas prices are actually carrying quite well in light of the fact that -- there was great concern over this potential impact of hurricane to a stop on the Gulf Coast and its oil facilities. But it appears that those oil facilities were spared heavy damage and as a result we're looking at oil actually falling about eight dollars a barrel since Friday down to a level -- about. -- 107 dollars 66 cents a barrel. And we're looking at a drop of 2% and the average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Massachusetts down from 362. For last Monday's survey down to three dollars and sixty cents to thank. "...

[0:00]..." So Mary we had a long weekend. How did the gas prices fair. "...

[1:37]..." shop around we're looking at a range of seventy cents. And the regular unleaded category from a low of three dollars and 39 cents to a high of four dollars and nine cents. I'm myself. Spent "...
