Play from 0:01[0:01]" Okay."

Play from 0:23[0:23]" Good friend lives. Please stop before I get a little emotional I thank you. Thank you very much it's wonderful to be back I cannot tell you how. How humbled and gratified that I am to be here as a nominee of the Republican Party and have. Because of what happened here. Thank all of my friend. They're so many people here that I want to thank Peter Spaulding thank you for your kind words in your support. -- barrows thank you so much Nancy Merrill -- co chair former chairman. Chuck Douglas our beloved governor Walter Peterson Walter thank you or Harry everything you have done Charlie bass. Jim Bradley thank you wanted to. -- there's so many people are steering committee and and I could just mentioned her completely weird today that I just want to especially thank so much. Because both families have made a great sacrifice and Tom Gibson Tom this year and -- and Lynne savage you're here Kim and and I believe. Are here today -- and -- but these families lost a son in Iraq. They are my inspiration and I'm very. Very grateful. That you hear thank you can thank you -- I -- committed violent to doing -- charged me back last August. And I will I promise you I will continue that charge and that obligation that solemn obligation. I'd like to thank our dear friends from one who are here great organization great group of volunteers. -- understandably this is. Select service to America. I'm so glad that all of our our our veterans who are here I'm always touched deceit. Including from the greatest generation thank you sir and thank all of you for the game. Here going to try to make my remarks -- because a town hall meeting is supposed to be a town hall meeting and I'd like to hear from you and that's what is important about there's a lot of things are happening in the world in this country there's so many many things are happening and I'm obviously not going dad. Have time to discuss the -- because I want to take time to spend it would view but before I go on much further I'd like to say a word about my. My former competitors and candidates -- the nomination of our party I'm honored by their by their support. I believe that -- me far better candidate as having gone through and a better American having gone through this primary campaign by the way you know others. Several times where I was during our campaign where some thought that. It was dead. And death I was reminded of the words of chairman Mao who said it's always darkest before it's totally black so but. But I'd I'd like to say again a word about about governor Mitt Romney -- fought hard each part well I believe -- governor Romney has earned a place in our Republican Party and I think he's part of the future of our Republican Party and I'd like to thank -- knows. There's very -- Unlike can add to what you already know about Rudy Giuliani had genuine American hero a person who reunited this nation after that we were attacked after America was attacked on 9/11 I will always treasure his friendship and his support for this country so I thank you for Rudy Giuliani in the great campaign. Well in the case of my beloved friend Fred Thompson I sat next to him joining guests in in the United States senate a wonderful man and by the way I always thought he should be president because he's already been present. Two or three times as. As you know in various movies and and television series I appreciate him very much. And governor Huckabee I would just like say a good and honest and decent man and -- and -- privilege for -- to get to know him during the campaign and I still think. Of all the debates we have probably the best line that I that -- all the debates was when they asked him what Jesus would do when he should Jesus would be smart enough not to run for public -- got out. I thank him all of my friends we are re uniting our party and we've got to reenergize our party and I liked him launch very quickly into a couple of issues where you. As quickly as I can because I know that. That you would like to talk to me as well sweetheart deal and first of all I'd like to say we know that America's hurting right now. We know that we've got economic difficulties we know that people are losing their homes as we speak. We know about the economy in the northern part of -- stayed up in Berlin where they've lost their manufacturing jobs and we know how difficult. Some the average American families today are struggling. And they need our help. And obviously I mean small government conservative but I think there are many things that we can do to help improve there's economic situation. But our hearts go out to the people that are suffering now and it is our obligation. As a nation to try to assist them as much as we can. And very briefly I think we obviously don't want to raise anybody's taxes that's why we have to make the tax cuts permanent that are there today. That pattern. -- families across America will experience a tax increase at the worst possible time we can we can't do that. My friends I I don't know how many of you know that. There's a thing called the Alternative Minimum Tax which was designed to support the bill wealthiest Americans now can reach down 125 million American families that. That has to be repealed we can't have a cute to -- taxes. We have to give Americans a -- simpler tax code that they can understand and that they can believe them. My friends Americans last year spent fourteen billion dollars fourteen billion dollars trying to protect her prepare their tax returns is there anybody here under tense -- tax code please see me after this meeting. I'd like to get to know you my friends we've got to give Americans a fairer simpler tax code that they can understand in that they can trust. We need to give businesses. -- businesses further incentive to invest in new equipment we need to give them entirely right operable -- over one year period. You know that the highest. The second highest corporate taxes in the world of paid by the nineties corporations in the United States America the only country in the world -- has higher tax."

Play from 7:43[7:43]" Is on corporations in Japan so businesses corporations leave this country and they take jobs with them. We've got to reduce the corporate income tax in America we need to do a lot of thank my friend and one of the things that we need to do among other things. Is -- Fix this system of people who are as much as we can to help people afford. Their home -- mortgages and remain in their homes -- the same time not reward greedy speculators -- Wall Street people it became very rich. One of the ways of fiction that is transparency in how all these things happen. Mortgages that are one page that shows at the bottom in big letters I understand this document. Rather than that. There's anybody here understand their mortgage have taken a look at it lately anyway so. The point is also we're gonna have to get lenders and borrowers to get it one of the problems is is finding a -- today. Patient listed there there there's there's account in Norway that. That is somehow -- lender because of the way they've diversified -- mortgages in the liabilities associated with -- but we're going to. To take probably additional steps but I also want to point out Q my friends and this goes back to this young woman with a assigned there. We have got to eliminate our dependence on foreign oil that we want to have our economy recover my friends we are sending. I'm sure you saw where the price of a barrel of oil went over a 10709 well whatever it is it's it's incredible. And we are --"

Play from 9:10[9:10]" Handing over 400 billion dollars a year of your money of your money to countries. That produces oil and they don't like is very much in some of that money ends up in the hands of terrorist organizations that's unacceptable. It's unacceptable and at the same time. We have a problem with climate change my friends I go back to 2000. And 1999 and 2000 when I came here young people stood up right here next appearance -- what are you going to do about global warming. I hesitate on a day like today use global warming but already going to go back climate change. What are you going to do about climate change my friends we have a nexus of two issues very briefly our dependence on foreign oil and aren't needed. Our need to eliminate greenhouse gas emissions as -- United States my friends I will work. To eliminate greenhouse gas emissions and are working United States America and I will work globally. We will have international agreements and I -- and I will insist that India and China be part of any agreement that we had. But we have the technology and innovation and the ability to -- green technologies whether it be. Wind solar power let there be a battery in an automobile literally take your car hundred miles before you have to plug again whether he flex fuels and hydrogen all of the things that American technology is capable of doing General Electric the world's largest corporation. It said there are devoted to green technology they're still doing pretty well I reject the notion. That by asked taking moving forward with -- innovation and technology that we're going to hurt our economy. In fact every time we may technological advances every time we've -- pat. Unleash the innovative. Entrepreneurship of America we have reduced cost and we can do that in addressing climate change as well"
