Play from 0:00[0:00]" John McCain categorically denies that this report is true he says he's disappointed in the New York Times and it's simply isn't true what do you make of the story considering that it did use anonymous sources and to what do you make of his reaction to the story."

Play from 0:17[0:17]" Well the story did not use only anonymous sources we know that some of the people who had worked for John McCain who has broken from them including John weaver that indicated that indeed there were people on the staff who were worried about the nature of this relationship with the lobbyists. But at the moment to tell you the truth -- practices they tempest -- teapot. Right now the allegations of the improper influence exercised by the lobbyist. Rest -- pretty thin -- it's not a the you know. Captured some significant bill through committee most he wrote a couple of letters to the Federal Communications Commission but he probably shouldn't have written but that didn't have any impact if any. And whatever the personal relationship was crisis. Suspect just given the history of American politics in the last ten or fifteen years that it's not going to make a great difference in what some. Something else emerges that indicates either that that is what kind of hammer or that there's a much higher level reckless skier it's a little bump in the role for John. Something he really didn't want as he had a pretty smooth -- heading to denomination but nothing -- a long lasting effect."

Play from 1:35[1:35]" If something emerges to the extent that it's revealed that he did have a romantic relationship it is that going to potentially D real his campaign."

Play from 1:45[1:45]" I doubt it very much you know one could make the case for the 71 year old guy having a relationship with a forty year old lobbyist could help them with some voters as much as it would hurt but. You know I think we're at a stage in our politics where that kind of the the story is not going to these very many voters the kind of voters who would phase are probably those who work and alike and very much to begin with the so unless their pattern here a pattern of recklessness and his personal relationships ever recklessness in the way the related the lobbyists or more conflicts of interest there isn't much to go on here but you know every time you have a story -- sort even if it doesn't do anything in another cell except for providing that they are two of distractions from what you really want to focus on the campaign it -- at least -- position where you have a little bit less black when it than when other thing emerge -- they haven't I've known John McCain well how long I'm watched him or longer. And I would be very surprised if there were that kind of pattern -- your -- so like I would be very skeptical but this lot that the real this campaign seriously."

Play from 3:07[3:07]" You keep saying pattern pattern you believe that the American public will forgive one discretion them."

Play from 3:13[3:13]" I think that we have a long history now little understanding that use human beings have feelings they're not perfect real well tolerate discretion. Discretion and so are one thing it said the that it what we look for is a pattern of reckless."

Play from 3:30[3:30]" It if it's a pattern is revealed at some point in time during the remainder this campaign before the convention. What do P. Theoretically possible for a Mitt Romney to get back into the race because clearly the Republicans would be in dire need of of viable candidate."

Play from 3:47[3:47]" Look it's always possible before nomination explains that it's always possible even after the nomination to exploit the current force somebody to back out if it is reached that point but it's extremely unlikely that something like that would happen."

Play from 4:02[4:02]" But it could happen I mean Mitt Romney could conceivably get back into the race is something -- it completely go awry."

Play from 4:08[4:08]" Sure of course that could also happen that John McCain has struck by lightning now that media the less likely than you know some sort of bigger problem emerging but I think we have not -- on the the people right now. That would indicate and likely that -- occurred."

Play from 4:28[4:28]" What about the Christian conservative ride which has been backing Mike Huckabee throughout this campaign. A will this motivate them even more to command -- supported Mike Huckabee. "

Play from 4:39[4:39]" I don't think at this point likely Mike Huckabee -- simply doesn't have much of shot here and -- The came completely collapsed winning -- nomination. And you know. Christian conservatives. Would have been motivated to come out of my pocket -- at this point frankly most of them are motivated more by Mike Huckabee and they are by a that this rule that taste for John McCain there are some who have that but I don't think you're going to see more from emerging out of the woodwork is because of the."

Play from 5:10[5:10]" It's the last question Cindy McCain came out she looked extremely uncomfortable though she was trying to smile and she stood by her husband says she's disappointed in the paper and that she believes his character clearly that will help him but your thoughts on Cindy McCain's role in all of this."

Play from 5:30[5:30]" Well you know of course she's going to be uncomfortable just simply having a story of the sword is not anything that you like to see but you know that the one -- would be most damaging in a situation like that would be if your spouse basically said that -- yet I'm out of here at a you've got your -- standing alongside the with. And you don't have any more evidence of what we have on the table then she becomes a plot -- him certainly but let's face -- this is a distraction and it is not the sort of thing that any campaign wants to see happen"
