[0:04]" This news wbc news reviews yes very I'm ready today at. York --"
[0:14]" W easy to -- 1030 -- that -- statement -- the -- in common with Ireland. Boston feels like they're a lot of folks from Ireland who have family here and vice versa yet somehow the problems between northern island and the rest of -- area are doing fuzzy. So celebrate -- saint Patrick's season i went to Ireland to get the actual -- To try to nail down what's really going on with i didn't have to wait -- in Heathrow airport while waiting for my connection i met a man who spelled out for you and for me."
[0:52]" Okay hello Stephen I'm sitting here with that Bradley and it's in in that involves an American in London and amp I've lived in northern island of ten years I'll give you my own sort of observation i was born in incidents on my back -- his Dutch. And honestly cannot in 1992. And -- the violence obviously is known for -- there has been a lot of killing and a lot of terrorism and i think. There's two sides of the story first the -- island as a nation went through a time when the English were there English landlords. And they basically took possession of large areas of land and the Irish people went -- very very difficult time. And so at some point during the Irish uprising it was decided that the British people decided that they would pull outs but because they had brought in a lot of. People from Scotland into the northern provinces. They made a decision to keep six counties. With great Britain and that really was where the problem began because as soon as that pot was kept with with the UK with Great Britain at that time. The Irish people again some sort of resistance and resistance movement to reclaim what they felt was this. Now -- islands over the many many centuries was very much the Catholic nation also because they were visited by quite a few. Catholic monks and some very very wonderful people but did a lot of good in the country during the time of the British occupy. Patient and decided that catholicism was can't and so any time religion is is oppressed it actually. Grow stronger and this more passion debts that develops and so when the British people left. The conflict that began -- rise was that in the north there was a lot of Protestant people and of course the Irish people being Catholic. Not only was it now something against Britain but it Nelson -- to be something against protestantism and that's really is the. The basis of all the problems i think is gone further than that of loosely. Families over the centuries experienced family members dying or being killed. And that brought a lot of bitterness and hatred and i think what we face more than anything -- now it in the north of violence is that people have gone through so many years of suffering that they have become suspicious of one another. They. Have become. Very. Angry about things that have in the past and that have been to have real difficulty with moving on and leaving the ponds behind how does that manifests itself -- daylight even today. It manifest itself and that's people will be suspicious towards other people and they will -- a person -- a certain name -- certain surname or certain you know Christian name table they all know either by the fact that the person has that name within the Catholic Protestant and so. People are constantly being branded it. Sometimes even colleges Leo being one side or the other. For example name might signify Iowa the -- pull for instance would be a Catholic -- so if you name -- as soon as you say my name is pulled and -- Catholic if your name is Stephen you be Protestant and so. These people given these names -- parents who know what it will mean to have these -- absolutely so then it's then it's true. Well is probably going to be one and Steven b is now going to be a. And. It's i have showing their colors in it brought that's wrong and does having the same time the new generation of young people are trying very hard to breakaway from all this because. Pay not a warning to repeat the same mistake she may say that the previous generation has made and so there is a lot more now into marrying -- frowned upon there's a little. Mold and then. And so they they are coming in to look for jobs because a country support. And they are beginning to enter relates with a population so there's something very interesting happening."
[5:56]" That. Is how difficult that the Catholic Protestant situation may be who -- did in new immigrants from Poland etcetera it's about. Being able to eat and trying to place the lives of these other things secondary and so the command and perhaps dilute the -- that's -- that's right and so."
[6:12]" the you know what you get there's this from becoming a gray area things were very clearly defined for so long because Arnold has been an islands. Kind. Of sort of separate from the countries in other influences but now of course is new people coming in from a different background different culture. Now there's almost like the lines are no longer clearly defined."
[6:33]" As i understand as ever soccer team for north and south. The rugby team is drawn from people from both north and south as we won national team that's interest that is correct so sport hasn't impressed that i knew that i am interest that you knew that I guess i would think that's what might be okay another way 44 people to forget these other differences and in the have a common goal."
[6:58]" Actually we had a situation last year when the northern Ireland northern Ireland team actually beat England in the preliminaries of i think -- was European Cup. It. Was a bit of a fluke thing but it United's Catholics and Protestants in the fact that they were both excited about the fact that England was beaten by the northern Irish team which is very much --"
[7:23]" C bank and Gaza we have -- with the Yankees it's expressed -- it's seems to have to be of the view that islam or its stake in in sport when it comes to sport here in Ireland especially when Ireland is playing against England like the other day and w that was a big deal it isn't Nat does national pride but something even greater its stake in --"
[7:45]" Now obviously this visit does this history involved there you know it's luck a lonely place before people actually to -- two really forget the past enough think think it must be said that England there's always one of the countries since softened that other European countries that -- the beat them you know. It's almost like say 20 years after the American revolution -- that he would play soccer against the British rod price who will -- rock and and sport is. In -- another sort of contest and other sort of. It's funny how history will always kind of leave its -- you know and people's lives."
[8:27]" Thank you -- and great job Stephen was able to give us a little bit of background from the situation in north island as well as a little bit of what it's like today. Did. You notice Steven had an australian accent i met him -- airport in London who's on his way home to Australia -- next time I'm Bradley each day and you -- j talking on wbz news radio 1030."
[8:49]" Yeah yeah yeah"
