Dotty Lynch discusses Health Care Reform

[0:00]" Mary Blake that -- BZ Newsradio 1030 speaking with CBS's Dotty lynch. About the historic vote last night in the Senate at the sixty votes of that they needed the Democrats for their health care overhaul bill. They did succeed in getting that there's a long road ahead right."

[0:14]" In here is a long road ahead and even though -- last night felt like it was. Big triumph for the advocates of health care. This still. Major differences between the house bill and the Senate bill. And island several of those senators who voted for that. Debate to continue. And said they do not like the present shape of the welfare a lot of negotiation -- to --"

[0:40]" The public option issue obviously isn't it is is --"

[1:30]" Abortion rights also -- there has been a key sticking point in the very controversial issue."

[1:35]" Yeah abortion rights and mainly the paying for abortions. Is something that. Is different in the two bills both have provisions of federal money can't be used to pay for abortion. But the house so goes -- further. And might limit the ability for people even if they paid their own money four insurance. To have that insurance cover abortions so. That's negotiation that has to take place and no one is in the Senate bill. Does allow -- of the private insurance to cover reports."

[2:12]" What takes place him behind the scenes between now and Thanksgiving and then after the break when actually full debate begins to send."

[2:19]" I think Collette and it happened behind the scenes Kelly's been happening since the house bill the senate now knows what's in the house bill the house notes with in the Senate bill. And they've got to do a lot of head counting and a lot of fun negotiating with key senators. I remember their number of liberal senators who also are not totally happy with this bill. In senator Sanders of Vermont for example. Was originally a single Payer advocate he wants to health care bill to go through but there are. Big issues about financing."

[2:56]" The Senate bills would put a 40% tax on those expensive insurance policies."

[3:02]" Which are held not just by rich people but pilot union members who negotiated that includes pay increases."

[3:09]" their number of slow liberals who don't want that particular provision in."

[3:13]" And obviously we know about the moderates who are concerned about public corruption concerned about. The costs over."

[3:21]" President Obama obviously is spent a large and not his political capital on this on this bill. What does he do in the next few weeks."

[3:29]" Be interesting they have been very involved. Behind the scenes Ron Emanuel his chief of death was."

[3:35]" Former member of the house people route who's been deputy chief of --"

[3:56]" And obviously the negotiations one by one with a number of senators including."

[4:15]" Republican moderates so I think both a lot of phone calls a lot of personal persuasion -- President -- but maybe also some public. Support for one version more and other."

[4:26]" So obviously key hurdle but many many more ago."

[4:29]" Many more to go -- Christmas to get New Year's without kind of holidays that they think. Washington is gonna see a lot of pro work done incentive --"

[4:39]" And obviously we're going to be seeing this continue into the new year even though President Obama wanted done by years."

[4:45]" I think well below what we -- with this particular vote is a lot of leverage when you get around the holidays senators wanna get out. Members of congress wanted to go home to their districts. And so I think there's still hold on the part of Democrats that they could -- is not buying years."
