Play from 0:00[0:00]" But what the joke although the way that David Letterman set it up it's out of like one of his stories that would end up with a humorous punchline. And then we heard what had happened that he was a victim of extortion in the what is obviously an embarrassing. Personal. Revelation ABC entertainment reporter David buses -- from. New York okay will what -- Letterman say. Well Letterman. "

Play from 0:23[0:23]" Is saying that he read this person and the suspect is a producer for CBS's news magazine. 48 hours tried to extort him for two million dollars and now as you alluded to before. The way in which he told the story was. Spectacular. Astounding. A jaw dropping an -- Is it will go down as I don't know -- determined as a classic TV moment but certainly an extremely memorable an indelible moment. If you will where this huge star David Letterman. Goes on his show and admits that he has had sex with several women that he works with and down. In some cases it would be a big deal but he has been an error in a relationship with the same woman for 23 years she is the mother of his child. He did marry her seven months ago so that there are a lot of questions to be asked about that. But on the flip side of that this person. Actually snuck of the person who tried to extort him actually snuck onto his property. And put a package in the backseat of David Letterman car. Which as he explained on his show he found at 6 o'clock in the morning when he was leaving for work the contents of this package is David Letterman said. Contained goats. That notes David Letterman and information about David Letterman and add David Letterman said it included information. About Dave doing some very very bad things and what this person intended on doing with this information which turning it into a screenplay. So gave called his lawyer they met with this person and this person said to -- you not only am I going to turn this into a screenplay. I'm going to turn this into a book. In less you give me two million dollars says they call the authorities in the authority said to them well this is a black males so you need to meet with this person again. And see if he's serious -- They met with him again he was serious they met with him a third time gave wrote him a -- two million dollar check this I was walking around with a fake. Two million dollar check which acting seems ridiculous to most people. And then yesterday gave testified in front of the grand jury and this man was arrested. Dave. Took the steps of telling the entire country in the entire world. This story and I mean it took a lot of courage to tell this story in and the way in which he told that he delivers his monologue. And then they go to break comes back from the break he's sitting at his desk and he asks the audience you want to hear a story. And he -- to tell the story. And yeah I think the audience thought that he was going to tell them a funny story. Now they think about that is he did managed to make this story kind of funny. In places and that is because of his natural comedic timing and the way he delivers things. EE. Almost everything seems like a punch line but he did indeed say. That I had sex with women that I work with. And he just felt that he needs to admit that or cop -- it. And he felt that he needed to do that in order to protect. His family and himself and he said you know if these women wanna come forward to with their story you know that would be up to man in in time if he wants that. Come forward with the story that's obviously up to him but he's never he's said that he's probably never going to talk about this again but. Call -- off an astonishing amazing story."

Play from 3:50[3:50]" David what's what is the story line here they did David. Is slept with a staff for that he was the victim of an extortion plot."

Play from 3:57[3:57]" I think it's the extortion you know I don't know which one outweighs the other one because I mean the revelation and that the fact that he did. Sleep with women that he works with. It does open up some problems probably for CBS you know certainly from a reputation standpoint. And also I think -- it's it opens gave up for some serious criticism. Considering who he has joked about and you know some people some people. Don't consider it a joke they consider it an attack when they are the butt of the joke in. And -- their intelligence and their judgment is being called into question. Through a monologue. Because now deed has put himself in really a compromising position through his actions because he thought that nobody was looking and he thought nobody. Would ever find out so there's that issue but there is also the issue of somebody else and this person who is. Supposedly a producer -- Emmy award winning producer. For newsmagazine show on CBS. Who tried to extort. What is this country's biggest."

Play from 5:01[5:01]" Stars which is absolutely. Ridiculous I mean think about what this guy did this guy snuck onto David Letterman property. And put a package in his car and met with him."

Play from 5:12[5:12]" Three times I mean the word for that is put spot major foot spa and it's also just extremely stupid how you could not know. That your your gonna get busted for this is."

Play from 5:23[5:23]" Absolutely beyond me."

Play from 5:25[5:25]" That's a great question you -- I mean the headline here really is that he was extorted but. There are a lot of little subplots here -- that will play out and this will probably. This'll probably snowball into a much bigger story yeah."

Play from 5:38[5:38]" David Boston of ABC news talk about the David Letterman disclosure last night a couple of things that he had. Had sex with -- some of the women who work on racial and that he was a victim of extortion as result of that and he's testified before the grand jury. So David David we all know that. Letterman has made his career out of turning the tables on the people who. Have done embarrassing thing that's part and parcel of what he Ian and most late night comics do. He'd be bid under other circumstances perhaps a howling -- this so will. The jay leno's and Conan O'Brien's of the world and all the competition will they pick on Letterman for this."

Play from 6:18[6:18]" Is gonna be really interesting to see that suit to see how that plays out I don't think there's any way. That Jay Leno will pick on Letterman I don't think Conan O'Brien -- there -- I don't think any of them well I think. There is there's got to be a code amongst these guys they're all late night talk show host. And they've all had personal issues you know one thing that Dave has proven in the past though. Is that when he is the center of the story he will joke about it I mean there is no other -- there is no late night show host who is more self deprecating. And they're all actually pretty self deprecating but he is the most self deprecating. Out of all of them why it's almost as if he created. That hole in the genre I mean he he almost created the late night talk this self deprecating late night talk show hoisted me -- that's not really part of Jay Leno -- as much as is part of David Letterman -- He's always putting himself down on the show and he has no problem being the butt of the joke. He did say he won't talk about it but it becomes a big enough new story. He will probably throw it in there every once in awhile he will probably joke about it but I don't think any of the other late night talk show hosts are gonna joke about it."
