Play from 0:00[0:00]" We're learning more today about another Democrat who would like to -- Ted Kennedy's senate seat his name is Allen Casey. He is officially filed papers to run for US senate. Any plans of formal announcement sometime this week. Casey as the co-founder of city year here in Boston and he started the national service programs some twenty years ago I want people to know who you -- the people now contains he has because she's on television yeah. --"

Play from 0:26[0:26]" I'm an official candidate I will be doing a public announcement this Thursday at noon just nailing down -- place today so I'm official. In the race and look forward to it in terms of reality it is well let's say you know I've -- immigrant background my mother's family comes from Italy my father's from Iran and my parents are really the motivation for the work I'd done in public service throughout my life my mom's in the -- my dad's a doctor. And my mom is sort of the classic Italian actual fault nobody over the phone. He is -- all the -- to receive as this you know irrepressible sort from life she raised me to believe that every single person has something to give them something to offer. Has something unique to contribute she has wonderful sayings like you know you've never seen you all -- is just wonderfully giving and my dad is a classic immigrant. From Iran is a doctor his dream was to have cured cancer. And -- to cancer research for years and both my parents went into medicine because they want to save lives -- heal people and my dad raised me with the -- in perspective. This is the greatest country in the world it's the only one he can come to in search of freedom and liberty and democracy become a citizen. Raise the Stanley give back coming from Iran in the 1950s. While my that was medical school unfortunately the popular elected prime minister overrun most of that was overthrown by the British government CIA and he was leading. Democracy and so my dad raised -- with his interest in perspective. This is the greatest country in the world. It's because of its ideals and because -- well to all over the world because of what it stands for but it's also important that we try to make sure the government policy. Results of those ideals and talking about most of when I was bored and so. You know my motivation. To do public service and to start sitting here was really a combination of my mom and my mom's saying every single person has something to give and contribute and you have to work to help them at least the potential for the micro and on the macro level my debts saying this is the greatest country in the world and we need to do everything to make sure that democracy is working for a."

Play from 2:32[2:32]" You follow in senator Kennedy's footsteps we should ask you are Democrat yeah I am actually. A conservative Democrat a -- and Democrat."

Play from 2:41[2:41]" Yeah non non -- now I'm a Democrat I don't -- ideological -- I think we need to move beyond the sort of old debate on the one hand you know we just need to go back to FDR's new deal and big government or on the other hand you know we need to get back to wrong Reagan's words the governments of the problem not the solution isn't to cut tax cut spending -- I'm an innovator and partner. I don't look at anything and ideological way -- focus on what works my life has been about actually making impact. And getting results so I will look at the best ideas from the left to right in the Senate. With a test of will this work I think we need to get to big citizenship as opposed to big government. We need everybody in the game were facing incredible challenges people verdict they lost their jobs their homes their retirement savings the kid dreams of a college education world almost to 10% unemployment and 9% of those that are lucky to have jobs are worried that they may not be here so. We've got to get all hands on deck and we've got to say you know what can we do to address these problems and we've got major challenges. For the country whether it's climate change war the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan health care education fighting poverty. Of course the economic crisis so we didn't approach that looks entrepreneurs and innovators create change that as a new role for government that. -- to public private partnerships with everybody working together to get it done which is what I've done my work to severe conditions that modernize -- news technology in the says we have to ground everything. With the -- because of promoter ideals of liberty equality of opportunity and justice so I don't listen to classic traditional -- blocks from trying to push and what's right for the 21 century."

Play from 4:13[4:13]" Are you going to differentiate yourself from the other candidates."

Play from 4:16[4:16]" Well I think the voters will make that decision I'm a citizen. I'm not a career politician I'm running as a citizen citizen candidate to be its citizens senator I have been public service my whole adult life trying to make changes citizen. And finally came to the realization that you know ultimately it is in government and politics where the big decisions get made because that's where the people's voice gets her on the run a very different kind of campaign it's going to be citizen -- it already is -- empowered citizens -- I'm -- can take the time of special interest money -- money even -- starts -- way behind on the other candidates because I don't have an existing campaign account for a list of political donors you know personal fortune that I can -- on but I believe and citizens. And I believe and citizens participating in democracy. Will be different. I'm gonna push a different agenda and try to say what do we need for the 21 century."

Play from 5:07[5:07]" what about an interim successor to Ted Kennedy are you for or against."

Play from 5:11[5:11]" Some loot they I think that's essential I think Massachusetts. Needs to have two full time senators in their meeting constituents' needs being their take cast critical votes on healthcare climate change announcement for that I hope the legislature goes along with a I think that the governor has shown real courage to say he supports that. And it's also you know important for the state so I hope that happens -- happens very quickly."

Play from 5:33[5:33]" Are you for or against a public option health and."

Play from 5:36[5:36]" I'm -- option I believe in in public private partnerships I believe in competition and I think it's key to bringing the cost down I also think we need an option for that you know. 47 million people that aren't -- it's important -- overall system more with comprehensive health care reform."
