Play from 0:00[0:00]" radio and television political analyst Jon Keller joins us this morning the morning after with a post mortem and that perhaps even. More portly -- look ahead and what Barack Obama has to do where we go from here. Not only nationally but in Massachusetts well -- for me one of the most telling lines and Obama's victory speech last night was when he said look what happened tonight is great but it's not that change. It's just the opportunity to make -- change. Perhaps his biggest job. Between now and inauguration day other than figuring out where to put John Kerry -- and caused minimal damage just getting senator. Is to figure out how to tamp down the out of control expectations there are for him right now. Understandably. People are excited. Obama supporters and others. 95% of Americans are expecting some kind of tax cut. A quick end to the war in Iraq I mean these things are not going to turn -- And -- his big job is to. Re calibrate expectations to some reasonable level -- forward. He did get more than sixty million Americans to vote for him but the John McCain. It more than fifty million Americans to vote for him the electoral victory that Barack Obama scored was lopsided that of course is the way that the game is played -- that made. All the different but there have to be some disaffected Republicans this morning you know the good news for Obama is that this was a clean year. Victory -- a sweeping victory."

Play from 1:30[1:30]" The bad news is that we've been very. Evenly divided and polarized. Country all in recent years going back through the Clinton years. And we will likely remain that way and that's going to be a very tough situation for him to. To fix. It's one thing to say are you going to reach out across the aisle there might be some Republican faces in the cabinet. It's another thing to try to change their reflexes that have become so ingrained in Washington DC. The hyper partisanship. That we've seen both parties practice. -- and the fact that. The Democrats couldn't come up with a filibuster proof margin in the Senate means that there will continue to be this kind of partisan divide. The the -- divisive nature of our politics is not going to turn on a -- any quicker than the economy or our foreign affairs are going to again. And and he clearly understands this the president elect has inherited a mountain of molten."

Play from 2:33[2:33]" I wonder if may be the fact that Barack Obama limited though it has been. Has some tenure in the US senate will help. Smooth the way for at least some some back room dealings one of the things that I remember hearing from Tom Daschle. When I asked him about the way the politics is done in Washington he says that he had never ever the former democratic leader had never ever seen such acrimony wants George W. Bush. Sat on the White House to your -- that would tip O'Neill was speaker and Ronald Reagan was president they disagreed on virtually everything word each other's throats over the Sandinistas for example. But they still played cards every couple weeks told Irish jokes and and had a shot of the of Irish whiskey. They knew how to get along his friend George Bush does not have many friends on Capitol Hill. It's important in order to get -- worked on will Barack Obama be able to it least. In the background have of a better working relationship of these guys."

Play from 3:30[3:30]" It's probably his toughest task and don't forget. Bush. Has a reputation. Had a reputation as a quite a charming individual personally. Before him that was Bill Clinton the master of charm who also ran into harsh. Sustained partisan opposition. So it's gonna be tough I don't even know if Obama drinks Irish whiskey or drinks at all I've never really. Learned -- you about his drinking habit he has stick try to find a way. One thing to it to hold onto is an optimistic note here though. Going forward. They're -- lot of comparisons drawn between Obama and Deval Patrick lot of similarities in their candidacies their antlers and so forth. Deval Patrick came into office here and had his now infamous stumbles. But he had no experience in the legislative arena in the political arena he'd just been had he been a political appointee in -- and had worked in the private sector. Barack Obama's being around the block a few times in Chicago politics Illinois State politics and in the US senate. He's clearly someone with a lot of personal charm and charisma who knows how to play the game. The task that lies ahead of him is going to call on every ounce of that those skills and."

Play from 4:47[4:47]" Experience of typically the American public extends a period of honeymoon the first hundred days of good will toward Obama. Mike conjecture he's he's going to have to start today. To get to work long before inauguration day on some of the big challenges facing this country. The most important of which is now the economy but the the war in her in Iraq is not far behind."

Play from 5:08[5:08]" I'll tell you one thing it's really got going forum in this may sound fluffy but it's not. Is that gorgeous family of his those daughters are absolutely gorgeous day and they're going to get a new puppy. And let me tell you the pictures in the video of him in that family romping with that new poppy. That's going to be. Popular with the American people going forward if I were him I'd be out there on the lawn -- daughters and that dog as much as possible."

Play from 5:35[5:35]" Well it worked for Richard Nixon did and for John F Kennedy guy and a by the way I saw at least one piece -- talked about is Michelle Obama going to be the new Jackie Kennedy. Although her style is not haute couture she pointed out and a recent television appearance in contrast to Sarah Palin's. An expensive Republican purchase were group which apparently in LB going back to. To charity that is they can't return it. That day she buys her stuff online from. 68 dollars. So. The deal the common touch can be can be quite effective yeah."

Play from 6:08[6:08]" And this is not a time in our political cultural or economic life for anyone to be putting on Ayers. Deval Patrick found with the drapes in the -- That dead people are very thin skinned about that kind of thing with the economy being the way it is now I think the Obama's can be counted on to. Get the tone right they certainly haven't had any missteps over the last two year consumer."

Play from 6:29[6:29]" Quickly you mentioned earlier. John Kerry if he does take an administration post secretary of state ambassador to the UN whatever it might be. Who's likely to take his seat."

Play from 6:39[6:39]" Wow it's going to be a free for all under state law there were BS special election declared depending on when and if he submitted his resignation. It could be at three or four months into the new year. And it'll be a free for all because as a special election any member of congress or other incumbent politician could run without giving -- his workers eaten so let anyone from just about any member of the congressional delegation to -- attorney general -- One of the statewide officeholders who -- Governor Patrick might decide that -- perhaps -- can do more working with his -- in Washington -- up here it'll be all hands on --"

Play from 7:16[7:16]" It looks as though the this the senator recently convicted in Alaska. Ted Stevens has been reelected. I was thinking that maybe Sarah Palin might appoint herself to deposition. That's -- going to happen evidently soul of the what happens with her."

Play from 7:31[7:31]" Well daytime TV talk. Well she's got some time to serve as governor of Alaska but death I think she has a future on Saturday Night Live I -- Tina -- is not a regular anymore they need help there okay and finally the three referendum here in Massachusetts. Number one question number one the income tax it did the abolition income tax went down what does seven as heavenly purity last I saw. That was ill conceived from the start the question went too far and was easily yet explain to voters has a draconian a bludgeon. And they raised no money to promote that they were swamped by the money raised by the public employee unions against it. I imagine how much different that might have been if they'd been adequately funded and if instead the question was. Rolling back the income tax to 5% the way the voters ordered done eight years ago it might have been a different outcome as it stands right now the marchers. It's got to be emboldened me. Two people on Beacon Hill as a sign that -- we can pretty much keep on going the way we're going countering that. The dreadful track record of override votes at the city and town level. So it's going to be interesting times ahead on Beacon Hill on a number of different weapons question to the decriminalization of her positions small amounts of marijuana. Sort of very cultural rapprochement -- the younger generation. Well or could it be the aging baby boomers who finally stood up on behalf of their own cultural vices I know one thing. If you don't have snack -- stock in your portfolio you might want to consider calling your broker this morning at a a and finally it looks as though the racing industry -- dog racing industry is about to lose a thousand jobs. Into the 30 yeah you would think that losing jobs today at a time like this might have been tougher call apparently wasn't for a lot of voters. It certainly suggests to me that -- The prospects of the casino proposal coming back from the -- dimmer than ever people are prepared to. Throw out the jobs and economic activity associated with a form of gambling that's been around for decades. I'm hard pressed to see how they're going to go. Calling their rep and senator demanding the casinos come and especially in light of the lack of disposable income around these days and the fact that casino revenues in the region and around the country have been tanking. WBZ radio and TV political analyst Jon Keller thanks -- I think it."
