Play from 0:00[0:00]" Thank her for being available Alex and -- I want to start with everybody's always counting the hardware. Where are we in terms of the gold and bronze the silver who's leading the race."

Play from 0:13[0:13]" You've got and are you ready go I'm sorry I don't know I don't know if that was your actual question are the --"

Play from 0:18[0:18]" I know because usually we banter for five minutes but then -- a travel all right well let's let's try to get -- we'll start over and I dole out kick into high gear -- That sounds good his and then Tony will -- him for another hit stop yapping at 1050. Ari and joining me is Alex Jones from these Summer Olympics in Beijing thanks for being here on WBZ radio Alex. -- to be here good morning good morning always a pleasure to have you let's talk about the hardware. And the number count in terms of who's got the gold the bronze the silver."

Play from 0:49[0:49]" Well it depends on who you talk to at this point of who's actually ahead beat the folks from the US who were here in China we'll tell you that the US is ahead because United States has the most overall levels right now including. Gold silver and bronze 73 total keeps changing but. Right now 73. China has 68 so it's pretty close but if you talk to the Chinese. Bill tell you that there are ahead in the race because they have the most gold medals 39 golds verses the United States 23 Great Britain is in third. Guy in the overall medal count. But he what's fascinating you go to new anywhere in this city right now including we went two historical site today part of one of the walls not the great wall what. A wall that are protected Beijing many many years ago. An outside of the wall they got the medal count listed. And they've got China on top because gold is all that matters to them they believe it shows superpower status in the world if they can win the gold medal count. They could care less about silver and bronze but if you -- anybody from the US we say give it all to us we want to see gold silver and bronze and in the US is ahead. You kind of feel for the Chinese athletes who come home of the silver and bronze. But well you agonize especially in some of -- the athletes and they've had a few who have gotten hurt and the way it's been explained to us they train their entire lives for this. That they go to special schools many of them were picked very young to get into these special gymnastics or track and field -- swimming schools. And if they don't do very well that they can just be a crushing to them and and their future."

Play from 2:20[2:20]" You know I know that some of the medals are in contention at least in the minds of Americans. Let's talk about a -- this acrimony a local gal from Winchester. In the -- she -- her landings but the Chinese competitors stumble but she won the bronze is is are a lot of buzz scuttlebutt over that."

Play from 2:39[2:39]" Well there's a lot going on with gymnastics you do have that so acrimony unfortunately during the team competition had some some trouble and and -- we we felt for after it was over because she says she felt bad. About there what had happened there because John Johnson a nasty Luken and at pretty good performances but. -- the US ended up getting silver eyes somewhat because of of what happened on on the balance beam in on the floor exercise. But on the vault you're right that -- that the Chinese ended up doing better despite. Faltering on the landing now comes down to a lot of different things in what they do when -- up in the air before they land. But there was some contention there. Last night another example not -- in and a Chinese. I Jim this Tucker Sheen had the exact same score at the end of the competition in the uneven bars exactly the same not a number it was any different. And by the rules of the the governing body that there is over gymnastics they went back to the judges they went back and looked at technical marks and then gave it to the Chinese industrial -- got silver so this has happened a few times now. The judges at least in most of the is that events if there's Americans are Chinese. Who were performing there aren't Americans or Chinese on the judging panel so we really can't say rules -- Chinese favoring them but. It definitely a few times has come up plus Sobel controversy over the ages of the Chinese gymnast still lot of people saying they don't look sixteen years old what they have to be. Is the international it International Olympic Committee investigating the ages are they dropping it. It loses seems like on the surface -- they're not paying much attention to what we've gone to a number of news conference is for that's been asked to the International Olympic Committee. And they say there's nothing really they can do that even though one would think that there are things they could do that. That they have been assured by the Chinese Government that the girls are sixteen that they have no proof. To investigate that they aren't sixteen it's just scuttlebutt here and there now you remember there is an article printed in a China paper. A few months ago that listed one of the girls as thirteen years old. And now they say will the state run newspaper that -- that was incorrect in made a mistake. And they eat -- to many people don't look sixteen years old but there's the International Olympic Committee says no evidence to prove that they need to open up an investigation truthfully. Being here in this host country it seems that the of the committee just really doesn't want to deal with it because what would it do to the Olympics if they worded it. To take away the gold medal from the host country."

Play from 5:03[5:03]" And tarnished that gold Alex now on -- exactly especially for China -- right now look brighter note the 400 meter hurdles. And this wonderful shot of three Americans so happy draped in the American flag this was a sweet."

Play from 5:20[5:20]" pretty incredible Angelo Taylor got the golden he had his sunglasses on he elmo's kind of I jogged over the finish line he was so far ahead in the 400 meter hurdles IA the other team members. -- on the Clement and her -- Jackson and 123. Silver gold silver bronze boom boom boom they were very happy afterwards obviously they were running around with the American flag taken photos running around the track but. It was quite an event and and possibly one of the few events and Americans will do all that well Lynn when it comes to track and field this year there is no Carl Lewis. So there there are few of the races in track and field unfortunately for the US where looks like. There's a whole lot of contention there is one tonight to track and field event with an American woman and it will see how she does she. As the the record at this point so she could very well win the gold tonight. Last question Alex have you tried scorpion on a stick yep. As far as I've gone it is. Raw muscle tendon on a stick how muscle tendon uncooked and it was disgusting. But but they do have. They have cicada on -- stick -- every insect you can imagine you can use cicadas Bradley behind me here that they're there in all the trees here in. They grill them up and they Needham. And so morality of rock chicken hearts on a stick. They have seen horses on his stick. And then of course the dog and the cat that most of the restaurants have gotten rid of but it is still available in some areas they've only got rid of -- though during Olympic time because the Chinese Government said that westerners would be offended. My colleague tried just heard stories -- a little with a dog the other day and said it was the worst thing he did ever tasted as I can only imagine and don't plan on trying to that during."

Play from 7:01[7:01]" Next week Carol I was going to dare you guys can say I'll buy -- in Boston if you trial of the scorpion on this deck."

Play from 7:07[7:07]" Okay maybe not have -- next time we talk Gloria maybe I will tell you that I tried the you know what breed you deputy specific -- water of the crusty ones look look look now noted it's all pretty pretty disgusting all right Alex good luck thank you so much."
