Play from 0:00[0:00]" Good morning for me summer vacation week is at hand and the seemingly endless wait for this break always reminds me of a guy I met at a cocktail party can locate some years ago. He was some sort of college professor I think he might even have been a Nobel prize winner but he was dumber than a fence post. We chatted briefly Annie asked me how long I was down four well I said I'm heading back tomorrow because -- two weeks were up. Two weeks he said completely baffled why just two weeks. At this point his alarm light stepped in because two weeks is all he'd get steer she explained but professor and Nobel then only halfway through he -- four month summer break couldn't comprehend it. I heard him muttering two weeks over and over as she led him away. Anyway I will not bore you with a description of what I have planned for next week because there's nothing more boring than listening to some -- talk about the golf he's going to play quite badly by the way. And the Clancy's going to eat instead. You're a few things I can assure you I will not be -- and during my week off. I will not be paying the slightest attention to the presidential race can -- be candid about this. Anyone with a polls has been following it closely it's likely decided what they're going to do it's -- pretty clear choice. And the election will likely be decided by folks who haven't been paying attention. They are likely to make that call by watching at least one of the debates in October and almost nothing that happens between now and then -- make any difference to anyone. But the junkies and the partisans. Know I'm taking a break from. And I -- people paying attention to anything happening on Beacon Hill with the budget we all know it's a disaster. And the only disaster I'm focusing on next week is my game all the T. And finally. Forgive me beloved colleagues but I will not be listening to traffic on the threes. Unless there's gridlock between me and the fridge it's not relevant for the next week. CU in August."

Jon says many lessons learned during the Nizon presidency remain relevant today.

[0:13]..." you destroy yourself and quote. Did you get it. It was Richard Nixon in his farewell address to the White House staff on the day he left Washington after resigning in disgrace for obstructing justice during the Watergate affair. I have heard the quote or thought about it in a long time until last night when I attended an excellent production of frost Nixon at the colonial theatre. The play tells the story of the extensive TV interviews British talk show host David Frost conducted with former President Nixon. Which climaxed with -- an apology from knicks and for the crimes that led to his impeachment. Frost and his fellow journalists in the place celebrate that moment as the crowning achievement the forcing of a moment of truth and contrition that never would have occurred without them. But that's wrong. Nixon's ultimate moment of humiliation and admission of wrong doing. Came on that last day in the White House when he uttered that quote and that gave that last pathetic waved as he boarded the chopper. And his comment about the self destructiveness of political hatred remains appallingly relevant. Perhaps inspired by the successful pursuit of Nixon an entire culture political destruction as the ball totally self righteous and profoundly corrosive. It was evident in the persecution of Bill Clinton in a pushed arrangements syndrome that was evident well before the invasion of Iraq. And could already see the sporting a self serving hatred of Obama a man totally undeserving of such poison. If you see frost Nixon you should come away convinced of Nixon's guilt absolutely. But sympathetic to his humanity if you don't. You may be on the path toward self destruction that Nixon warned us about. "...
