All the and I think -- this apartment yeah my government to make up you picked you know I really prepared and they can make me feel good but we're buck. 250 mile. With the west of Denver. And 250 miles east of Salt Lake City -- get a map of what you'll know exactly where."

Play from 1:31[1:31]" Carnival will mapped -- Google Google Google earth you can type of where you're actually Joe it's great to have you on board because. You're involved now with I know you're writing a book about the industry and I was I was very honored to -- little passage -- done on your request. And I know that you have had. In your career up to you work in various parts country what was was nice about working in Boston as the morning. A discharge in as the morning announcer for so many years."

Play from 1:58[1:58]" believe in Boston eat you know it's funny I look at Boston reflect the rip saw and I look at everywhere else we want to electrically -- it they've quote. It was at my home -- on of the listeners were great to meet Jordan I can't complain that you've been. They put me under their wing -- matter -- one of the newspapers. Chosen -- and as we are but. I I do have my block the route I'm I never got a chance to -- by Connell left. No one night came I decided to move west and I never really got a chance to -- applied to our listeners. Because you know we have so much illness. Or really appreciate you can me an opportunity to come on and I really do William."

Play from 2:38[2:38]" You're saying -- does not sing Yuba city -- Packard up. On --"

Play from 2:42[2:42]" Joel and everywhere we worked I can't complain that people were critical listeners were terrific but there's something special opening applause and I don't want to school there -- to -- them. I was on here for almost twenty years. -- moral war and then -- in my truck yeah afternoon -- for a while that didn't work out of on the morning guy and then how do you like going home like you're you're a formal morning guys."

Play from 3:04[3:04]" Yeah I did mornings for for use of -- I love -- knew we would joking about the time but the fact is I'd much rather. Stay up all night go to bed when I get home and have to try to get out. At 3 in the morning and you do demanded that longer than I did an NR really wanted it just cramp your style little bit."

Play from 3:21[3:21]" You have a little bit that I and I know that after awhile you know wasn't really revealed that -- got lost my voice for years ago when the first time. I've got an opportunity to get back on the years in April 2004. When doctor that I asked them when I was in the hospital in Florida writes that I was reading a note that a little chalkboard. I like that income Michael back on the air and the doctor looked at -- with peck on the air that I almost didn't they would talk again gone very blunt and very thankful that I'm. I'm talking Putin -- my friend you met them."

Play from 3:52[3:52]" Early Joe that's a very very important part of what we'll talk about in a little bit later on folks giving -- sale loaded to Joe by calling in but. You have had health issues that if that certainly they will have challenges but to be told. This is this is what you live to do -- in your career to be told that this is pure. Is diagnosis. That -- that's devastating and it's it's it's almost an ironic you know in a black iron he kind of what what what actually happened to you after you left Boston in terms of your health."

Play from 4:25[4:25]" Morality if you don't have a and we are doing well it was it's a new radio market after being in Boston for the moment here. But I do well in morning drug killed the Ethiopia and I would announcement format -- the truth I don't know color booklet. And I ended up with a triple black the equipment it was actually kind of funny Jordan if you can find humor with a triple bypass. I have been here at this particular I was out in the field I have a little bit of a tingle in my right arm. And number one arm my right arm to move. I went to my doctor accomplice in doctor on lane in Houston and it didn't we ought to get that connect -- if I have a problem Lockhart wouldn't be mullet on. And it fit none of the early. My limit once we're -- going to distressed to make that guess what. You are candidate or individual plastic. I don't I think it's like I don't particularly in global Islamic -- Luke's hospital in Houston sitting on the -- not -- My -- you have a roomful of nurses and doctors thing we hope you'll -- level that's wonderful. I don't want to get up here when we give it to begin to plastic. I don't think that will we have a new procedure and you know it's funny how life is Jordan I was lucky to be in -- we're not only that they. You put the Pentagon poured into -- that they perfected -- at -- look at the -- collected in that regard to -- sitting on the it to -- dangling might be like a little nine year old EU and they that we want to do. Two -- part in this new procedure that I will look at that involvement with you have to come back. Have you looked drawn a couple of times a week purple thirteen quick -- that pat. I don't want to do yeah -- like you guys but I really don't want to do that -- we would kind of like that I think are important. They're trying to convince your columns written this former military her walkman. With a stethoscope on the old and a clipboard who goes you mr. -- I applaud you you can call on the hill and who were prepping you for open heart surgery. You have two major artery -- your walking time bomb went through and you'll want to speak to a triple five. But it wasn't that it was you know recovery was little disco put. You don't win the wonderful game radio. The vision was being sold at the time and even though we. Really good numbers. A little -- figures to my contract was up with a -- that's a good time to let you know -- And without them on the -- until his listeners need to it's -- there's -- that. Doctors did not go home to recuperate and -- free environment -- So that was my stress free environment kind of going to work you know Jordan. Not to make -- pity party but I would empire might well I have my -- on the Newton Wellesley and Boston you might decline. Here it is 99. Economic use -- to have a triple bypass you know. I was getting up their little bit than they'd. And and I'm sorry in people look at that. You know they don't talk about it -- that they don't want to they -- cultivate discrimination but they do they look at that those thinking of -- I don't blame them. I just that you major surgery and I'm sitting on the -- remember Kim Kim -- like human Olympic and I have until after. And -- on an -- I didn't shape elect or five days I'm sitting -- rocking chair and sit and try to find work. And I that he -- the -- like. Nonchalantly pocket on the turn next to me that I call for fifteen people. They all here upon bill last -- you put people that let us know where you land co. He and I mean. And -- damaged goods I'm not complaining a mock crying it's just the way you want."

Play from 8:19[8:19]" Checking with to Joe Martel who offered for many many years was. Of very prominent and well loved and still is well loved personnel in Boston in -- is talking about his his selfish isn't affected the business they can be very. It can be very very sort of cold and very very distant when you need somebody to say it will hang in there with you it it they're not quite as patient is. And it's very estimate into the field but outside hit you -- you do what you do on the air as a radio personality it's a little different than say television personally could use. He you can do it with your with your mind in year in your brain in your heart your voice what happened -- with your voice that the carpet elusive."

Play from 8:59[8:59]" Well let me tell you -- my Angel on this planet my guardian Angel carried Berkowitz. Who hired -- beckoned from the United the original -- to my -- to communism we have an opening hymn and -- Palm Beach,. Florida. We just moved to Texas a couple of years ago -- that. We really didn't help the morning drive so I like it down and try it for a few months -- they elect me and I liked Nauman. Things worked out but they -- ended up being there for four years yeah. What happened once I ended up with pneumonia. I got pneumonia and I kept going into work you're you know there's like pictures when you're doing morning drive you can't really call him at 3 AM. The program director doesn't want to wake up call a real one going -- feel good yeah you gotta go went so. I kept going and with a chuckle at that it was a nagging cold it and it affected my voice. Eventually. I started losing my lord and like a pill -- on the here. And 1 morning I had put up my people are going to appear in the -- you could go to doctors so. I went to my doctor and I immediately went to the hospital people that would. We're not going to drive we're going to call an ambulance glanced up at Jupiter hospital. A little bit north of what pondered each. And they diagnose pneumonia. Acute asthma and bronchitis. And I was really really. -- believe me. My doctor I think what's wrong with my point lead to volatility -- big part of -- don't worry about it. The report due later Mohawk like that I think it's more than that will be opening. And they -- three nodule on my vocal."

Play from 10:41[10:41]" Court which is the kiss of death if you did the singer or an actor or of -- R -- and it's off. That's such a terrible diagnosis could --"

Play from 10:49[10:49]" Sitting there going -- what do we do now and he's a good you don't talk. Or at least two weeks -- Well that was you know trying to come on the tying -- Little -- company who's been on the -- video book umpteen years that he can't talk for two weeks the Panama. That you -- look at -- her -- now so Kim and I would like exchange it was a it was content. I would write things down and he could not she couldn't read them back right after she still couldn't read them and it was Mexico like me. A joke got a little -- could go back to the doctors who -- companies that. He can't go three more we can't I give it up the 31 strictly platonic yeah. He that we really don't want to performs surgery because we don't want -- and they'll politico. Julie she's actually some vehicle that she she we don't know what you're going to some. Sort of therapy. We -- apparently -- speech pathologist and West Palm Beach -- this week -- month. Now the second world that was an April and September out of the clear blue can make my wife was diagnosed with melanoma. He found the little spot on the back during the and my wife read all the time -- your -- on home medical spoken and so I think this is pretty bad. And we -- the idea dermatologist consumers dermatologists looked -- that in the coming on today. And we could you have insurgent bombing in -- Being a typical radio -- Gordon I think they would carry one around in my hip pocket I don't have a surgeon. But I bet he had tied the boss but later definitely want to position in the Boston area. And -- American -- so we didn't even know what can we don't we're looking at a Catholic political -- But not to get into the whole thing about melanoma but that -- book. The the elements in the -- how deep it is. Me lead to more security than you know something else -- She came back and can have surgery like two days later and it was like I think was appropriate -- and that's very very cute. Effective congressional prognosis which in her room. My doctor her doctor doctor Henry Shapiro a great guy and that could put hospital gown that you know don't you but I think that got into pumpkins -- to make. And equipment there should be under Lek yesterday. And they -- you know. We've become movies a year at Duke University they're going to be 202 week. I have a friend -- we haven't come up because we can have one radical rebel. Not to get too technical here but. She modestly immodest book and a thousand. Completed know what Taiwan and they clocked at Jupiter it was cancer because that it is gone beyond you political. I looked at duke we go and they are very analytical very good to do think the a lot of patients from all over the world. But not much in the way of bit about manners and the government and so -- certainly comes on like writing out questions and just an argument that they're like. Piped up. And a lot of improvement that scandal that took. They went through all the campaigns and all the web worker confederate veteran you know my situation at the time I'm still couldn't talk you. Even people through hormones lyric talk a little bit but not a lot. And and Jordan god works in strange ways and on my. Religion developed by any means but if I hadn't been on the -- I don't think I would have been able to. A company can't why couldn't -- couldn't quit the radio's great but because I was all on medical leave. I was free to travel with her. And when Google for the support. So we had to go up a couple of times we went to duke Carolina. And second time we when. Situation in the young a system doctor was what do you know and he would. -- also spent on the field so he would listen to kill one handy. So he wanted to pocketbook don't want -- we were anxious to get the results of what the heck they had been doing in the lab is quite funny in the span in particular had like gone. I don't believe this regional -- look at 1 o'clock -- Paula I can look upon them on how many oh happy that it's not cancer. You know we don't know what it is but he's cool he's critical moment I would jump around in on the and the chief surgeon want to eliminate -- What's going on. And you know I mean pocketbook a cold shoulder. So I think that won't pretty -- the -- good judgment that we read through all the tests and all -- Would -- not cancer we have no idea what it is. But we think it was -- removed during the surgery. You know while earlier you -- look we look at me right now I mean I think -- noted that I that I know the empire. Jordan he could -- home and he put the look. Not peculiar. And then I that I know what the answer is -- And I could read his mind like okay here's the -- not -- Medical guy who's gonna -- media. And I I believe the duke power of prayer. And you can make a couple of them concentrated -- sit him because of our listeners on the couldn't radio content or down. Has been on one of the world's largest pertinent to my route we have that's what happened in north of -- duplicate that way or work in -- And he looked down at this clipboard for the longest time if you look back at me any good. Corporate culture right he or -- right he goes. Campbell -- on the mountain have a good luck but I don't. Here we are in Colorado."

Play from 16:41[16:41]" Well I'll tell you what let's do this we'll take a short break break -- and we can be an army on our democratic -- I'm lovin' man you sound terrific by the way. Joe's voice is very familiar to so many in new England and -- even around the country. One of the truly most talented guys to to do radio -- and we come back and talk about the business also take some phone calls. At 6172541030. We'll be right back with -- Martell. In moments."
