This case was brought by the American council of the blind into blind individuals who sued the secretary of the treasury arguing that failing to make different denominations of US paper money distinguishable for the visually impaired. Violates the rehabilitation act and that's exactly what the court has just held. The court noted that of the 171 money issuing authorities in the world only the US prints bills are identical in size and color in all denominations. The government argued the blind have a number of coping mechanisms including relying on others. Folding the corners of paper money themselves to differentiate among them purchasing -- 250 dollar currency reader or using your credit card. The court said the government arguments are analogous to the contention that because the physically impaired can ask strangers for assistance. Or crawl on all fours they are not denied meaningful access to public buildings.
