Play from 0:12[0:12]" Yeah they look at -- frenzies Jordan on WBZ at twelve when he forty's movie night we're devoting the first hour of our program with. Gary in Maryland and frank our regular team. Two a film that just opened recently it's called radio Cape -- it's now playing at the Coolidge corner cinema in Brookline it's also now available on dvd. We have the director producer and part by -- or writers well. Andrew silver his production company put this thing together and his son Julian is in the film. Just graduated high school yet so from Roxbury Latin congratulations that's wonderful. And the film is is a delightful and it's it's a love story it moves very slowly very easily very comfortably there's no violence there's no. No no four letter words does nothing to be you can show this to your family. And it and it brings up a lot of interesting issues. About generational love and and also. You know why -- love can be kind of tricky at times but also very very satisfied. And as we get into this discussion now will invite callers that want to Genesis 6172541030 and has -- again about his. Role in the film you play at a young man. Obviously who is in this theaters summer theater workshop deal -- yeah."

Play from 1:33[1:33]" Its the character's name is Virgil does this thing in the summer which is theater camp it's a small group. People who you kind of get the feeling -- been friends for along time. And down -- he knows this girl there and and that's to eventually becomes a slew of interest Al franken Gary. And and I world. Young men one time even if you've -- I'm not gonna ask you guys but if you want to jump -- I felt exactly I knew exactly what was going I would do with the -- it's like to have you don't realize what girls. Our thinking is feeling and you just you can't imagine why why you treated me this way and that's the that's the quite I have red guys -- Did it ever happening you frank if you -- planning and it is hot. Does it have a want him out of Maryland Gary because we tie -- call fifth year. But she's a sweetheart the girl that you play opposite that -- in the young lady from from Britain. Salute and -- tell us about the woman I've fallen in love with tens of the other attempts in the older one -- which she plays the the woman who lost her husband and she has this romantic moment or two were -- was this young man from the from MIT. Right and her house."

Play from 2:53[2:53]" It was a scientist and so she's been doing these interviews with scientists on Woods Hole which is a center for science. On the tape and we cancer because she has such a beautiful English. British broadcasting kind of voice as well as -- a lovely lovely actress. This is an actress who -- his disease is very very popular in Britain so question I have is how does your company. Here in Boston doing an Independent film which which really is is that. A tough challenge and and and how do you attract an actress of her caliber I think she liked the story in the role and I think she liked -- the idea going to -- college hadn't been had you read them this in the middle of the swamps of someplace she would not have an interest in Britain it -- so location makes it different though exact location okay."

Play from 3:43[3:43]" And prince Andrew -- question in terms you characterizations would you say that the older couples in the unit involved in searching for this lovin' feeling the slump. Would you say that they had more of a growing pain experienced and saved you know Julian is. Young act character do you think the older people still had the growing pains in terms of experience in lava trying to feel it. Perhaps some more ideal absolutely. I mean it's -- question will they take the risk knowing the pain."

Play from 4:16[4:16]" And it's tougher. I'd say almost because you know young people are able to shake it off a little Morton easily -- and the older people you know. They have to deal with that her. Much -- would knows. Yeah yeah yes yes that there really really has goal of the night panel and you guys as well to talk let's talk about some other films that might might be. It is similar in nature that might inspired and and I'll turn like yourself to do something like this. I love to know what your inspirations are in movies both of you go around the room to -- Maryland if you think love stories in films. You know what comes to mind what are some of your favorites. I'll just throw this question to anybody wants to jump."

Play from 5:02[5:02]" And I I attentive. Like things that happened in the past and their love Robin and -- he. Most most stories I don't like them because they're not real people."

Play from 5:16[5:16]" They're not real situations thing. You know. I'm not quite sure what a love story is is it any story with this love and Bill Clinton very or does love has to be the focus of it I mean. In the in this film -- C radio could cut it it's really just ordinary kind of just very ordinary situation -- just I am sure all of that just. Yeah it's real people. Yet I think found any important ingredient to a good potent love story has to be I think sometimes the nostalgia love. Added in atmospheric. You sense of be endearing going to outlive your -- come out. I think any love story down whether mainstream or Independent -- the sense I think of mystery. Because you know gentlemen love is lately. -- love can be a very you don't clouded ambivalent concept. And so you have to have that are of mystery about it so I think definitely that's what would make a good."

Play from 6:21[6:21]" Yes -- raise your hand well I wanted to comment about love stories that I loved when I was young. And really hate now such as wondering heights -- okay Fannie. Movies where people. For want of having a simple conversation ruin the remainder of their lives I have no patience with the it just makes you want to just reached the screen and just lacked the miraculously kind of show we do guys this is what we do and yeah we just let it all hang up when I was fourteen I thought this was the most romantic thing in the world proving that I must have learned something over the -- let me and --"

Play from 7:02[7:02]" The great -- Armstrong here and you you set at the outset that you guys -- love stories -- absolutely and I as -- was sitting here. Going around the paneling in you're talking -- was talking about his character and Andrews yeah. The writing of that character was thinking about a movie that I haven't talked about before about duke. Julien Jordan Jordan I think a lot like him yeah yeah -- we give you some of 42."

Play from 7:27[7:27]" Well local."

Play from 7:28[7:28]" All yeah. With Gary Grimes is asleep at two young American he -- about unions -- back when this movie was -- falling in love with the older woman yes Gennifer I'm having a senior moment O'Neill Jennifer O'Neill and aren't you and of course it was. The backdrop was 1942. But it was all it was set on the -- it was how how it was more romantic can that be and I was identified as the Fifth Amendment and I wasn't there at that age."

Play from 7:57[7:57]" You eat well sit the Julia no offense but you play kind of -- Virgil amiga -- he's a lovable nerd and I think that's the thing about young love I mean oftentimes it's. Its its clumsy and we will make mistakes that's the way it's supposed to be we're not. We're not smooth he's like like some of these movies. Point -- sure sure."

Play from 8:16[8:16]" And you have to be impetuous and you have to be able to investigate your feelings then and stumble until you get it right and and let's face it you know all folks and if they still have a question about that then. What you think you know young. People itself definitely."

Play from 8:32[8:32]" Which -- with the stars and the -- producers of radio Cape Cod which is a brand new film just released it's available on dvd but it's playing at the Coolidge corner hopefully you'll move to other festivals and expand what about rating real characters what about putting real characters on the screen is that is that when most challenging things for a movie. Producer director because. Even though and ordinary folk who see a move -- so I can say that doesn't that's phony that doesn't ring true how how tough is that."

Play from 9:01[9:01]" I think you have to take a lot of time -- you have to have the actors meets the real people who. They are playing so we had. We met sciences we met radio interviewers and and so when -- was over my inspiration for this was a man and a woman which was on repeats. In 1973 Academy --"

Play from 9:20[9:20]" Oh yes men and a woman the foreign film or a private corporation uploaded right exactly yeah. And also when you're dealing with -- dialogue it's so easy and frank is always on this because he's a critic it's so he's beautiful all into. The -- pats cliches and Diallo do you have like you know that cliche meter but you're looking in it."

Play from 9:46[9:46]" Well luckily the actions have a two and can listen to that you listen to their best that's -- they've known don't know. Better way to do this of other way and I was wondering. Julian what have you had any yen feedback from any of your former classmates."

Play from 10:02[10:02]" But I hope logo or friends and -- I don't know type bed so much feedback on the acting in general I should probably ask my friends about that. Let I guess as a movie -- yet. Added if they attack anything it would probably be a line. You know my inability to deal with any of the situations that. Arise with old girl and it's like c'mon you can you know it's a movie or an actor for our but what they think they're -- did you think you keep getting feedback about the movie itself. While they like -- you know -- reference I don't think I can actually get there."

Play from 10:43[10:43]" But you -- man you gotta be using this to your advantage I mean hey if you want to see me on in the snow yeah. Playing god that life spin and it's available on dvd and it's all over the enough -- I don't want to put myself and Jordan that would have been a great game right unions -- cute movie. What do I have I was a busboy and right I mean I still too didn't you. -- house page that allowed America. We're doing at that -- viewers earning him in -- simply do not start you actually I was married by the town has eighteen Belushi he's okay yeah not. We will head of the let's take a phone call 6172541030 obviously before we go to the phone call. A lot of people have not seen the film yet that's whoever we're happy to have you here to promote -- it's it's very limited release but it is playing at the Coolidge corner which is a cool place to see if -- Pretty much of the summer you bureau corporate image and so it's doing well and and word of mouth and so we're let's go to Sherry and north -- sharing your own WBZ."

Play from 11:48[11:48]" Hi hello Sherrie I think I -- going to Nigeria. I should at least five there I think I think we know who loses is somebody who has exists that's okay that's okay I you don't -- I'm doing great you know Jordan II want to comment on I'm enjoying the show us so much."

Play from 12:04[12:04]" And well we were talking about the different stories others -- different love stories here in the film. One of the things I kept thinking about was the very first time I saw the film. I felt like there was a whole different story went our love for at the ocean. It's almost like its own love story in a sense as a backdrop to all of these other human connections that are going on. In one of the things that expresses it so wonderfully in the beginning of the film is the quote that -- used by Arthur C Clarke. Which says how inappropriate to call the planet earth when clearly it is ocean. Yet I just wanted to throw that out there to see if anybody had any comment on it."

Play from 12:45[12:45]" Well let's find out Andrew and you live your life. Actually common questions whether as a lot of -- in this film I mean we use the ocean between the two five days it's five days of home movies and in between each day. We have this montage of the ocean and then we also use the ocean to reflect the mood so that when. There's a fight between them Virgil. And his love story and the ocean shots are kind of full of conflict in waves and storms and another -- that very calm or sometimes excited. So that the the planet is reflecting the emotions so that people and artistically that works beautifully good."

Play from 13:27[13:27]" Yeah I have to say have very good observation sharing because again as St. Andrew the ocean. Isn't sense and metaphor it's symbolic of the -- thing these emotions and and attachments and failing so good to you sharing good observational."

Play from 13:43[13:43]" and you you actually this but mentioned you guys work together right -- is is the one like spoke with. And what was your role on this project sharing."

Play from 13:51[13:51]" I wrote Jordan if not all about meet tonight but I I was blessed to be involved with the film post production. To assist with the marketing distribution and I just was so happy to do it because I'm absolutely in love with the film. But I am going to hang up because I want to listen to the -- the feeling gives people a chance to Colin and talk with you."

Play from 14:10[14:10]" Nice to Turkey captured eight four go to break. This is when you're doing something like this and you've been a filmmaker for awhile and doing documented this probably is akin to. You know family red -- to people you work out for everybody involved it's Andy you see the credits rolling on these movies he's on my god. This is 300 people in some of these big children and millions of dollars and and so we're. You read this is your life that's opening screen is but in this film is like 25 people -- it and obviously but no still that it hits. This -- this is everything that you can imagine in your life. Creatively up there on that screen including the people you you look like your son comment -- actually we. The actors at least done all stay in the same house while we did shooting and so we spend all our time together. And I think that really helped in the actual movie the relationships between all of us and we felt more comfortable with each other as we spent you know every meal. And every night together -- and we weren't shooting and you know it it really did become like a second -- We'll take a quick time -- come right back continuous radio Cape Cod a brand new film -- shot locally natural light. To beautiful movie -- music from the movie by the way is very nice as well play a little like going to break right now."

Play from 16:08[16:08]" You can eat me -- Jack. And the -- stand."

Play from 16:48[16:48]" Tell us love story brewing here you can tell us yeah you're -- movies tonight in this first hour of the word or focusing primarily on one Independent film. In theaters or at least in London very important theater in Boston Coolidge corner it's called radio Cape Cod. It is a love story it's an inspirational film it's actually won some awards already. And -- in studio is the -- the director producer and and writer as well as his son Andrew silver a silver productions and his son Julian who's in the film as well. And a radio Cape Cod dot com the music by the way very nice all Independent -- recent Vogel."

Play from 17:23[17:23]" Here that was hey remain on who lives in Boston and -- Musicians came from the K or live in Boston -- seven different. Musician and it -- the scene beautifully it's very laid back very soft very gentle and you know it's nothing that's going to upset the flow that and today it is what it is about flow you know. The water issue again -- it as you know and tonight anybody who has the website -- radio picked out that come and orders that dvd gets the free CD sales -- soundtrack and I was going scary and I I want to ask. Julien another question you know we we tend to Maryland and I can watch these shows that have the veteran actors talking about how. How they reach inside themselves on occasion to find their payrolls or whatever or how how on -- field. When they're up there on screen did you did you feel as if there are you putting yourself and in harm's way in terms your your your own psyche. Actually it."

Play from 18:23[18:23]" Yeah a little bit although -- the actual character was you know similar to was. You know I've dealt with every country -- deals with cathedral products -- awkwardness but I guess the type of movies that I like you know. Pretty commercial and I guess. Being in an Independent film you know it's taking a step towards. You know it's kind of putting yourself out there wouldn't you wouldn't and but I'm I was perfectly willing to take the risk you know it's my dad and I trust them 100% and could -- him and."

Play from 18:55[18:55]" What do you do from here radio can't cut to review that next summer or your -- and anybody who and we do we do casting. With the local people and if anybody's interest -- to send in their pictures and also because. I mean a lot of the people whose film whispers in the theater camp where are not professional actress and they were seem so natural and because we film -- this -- so we'll see Virgil who returned absolutely absolutely clear to."

Play from 19:23[19:23]" The photography in this film. Is absolutely breathtaking and I know that we talked about natural light but I can't imagine -- scenes of Cape Cod. The ocean the beaches the docks. I just. Amazing I mean I've indicate got a million times it's at the same Cape -- it's it's just it's actually read. I mean it this is the kind of thing that that we forget about what we're talking about CGI stuff this is real time."

Play from 19:50[19:50]" He's right it's a really beautiful and it's seen with the Michael's been -- some photographer came from Zurich and he he just fell -- any sort with fresh eyes."

Play from 20:01[20:01]" That is an excerpt from an interview I did with the director and his son Andrew silver and Julian silver. They both appear in radio -- co locally produced film go to radio Cape Cod dot com for much more and thank you for listening"
