Madcap Golf with a Payoff: The 50 in 50

[0:15]" 5850 is is basically a national fund raiser. And when we caught a mobile telethon and we're playing fifty golf courses and fifty days of fifty states. To really raise awareness and raise money for breast cancer prostate cancer melanoma so it's our way of giving back without expecting anything in return. And so Craig and I are going to be traveling around the country driving. From state to state except for of course Alaskan Hawaiian we're going to be playing one municipal golf course in every state we have to do in 44 days but we're we're. Maybe for fifty."

[0:46]" Craig a lot of situations people. Going to charity work because they have been touched by a death in the family member death of a friend. What is the cause and the -- background view until I'm doing this for cancer just doing a good -- do and a good term due in doing something for others without looking for something."

[1:11]" You see so many memorial events being played today and and bill and I want to get the message out to folks look. If you go get checked and you can catcher cancer early enough then you can spend a long life enjoying your family enjoying. The game of golf enjoying whatever you enjoy if you if you just go do it we'd like to be. We want we want to trying to the message out so that it's not too late for others. And -- a lot of people will join in charitable fundraising situations. And do one event or do something at their home base at fifty golf courses. Fifty states in fifteen days. You guys -- return nuts. Or you just an ambitious way of thinking about how to raise money absolutely I think is probably a little bit about it definitely been called -- many times but some crazy ideas that down. I think that it's it's an extreme fund raiser it's something that definitely catches people's eyes in the last just today. Guys have an -- when they -- to -- filming in Maine where the bus so it's of splashy and a gentleman walked up and told his story about how he's dying of prostate cancer. But his son because of what happened to him his son is now had the opportunity your nephew to go get checked and they caught the cancer in time and he's going to be good so. He wanted his story told so that others can that game get the cancer caught early enough so. -- definitely you have to be big splash to get the attention but then take the time -- and westward. And bill in your mind what is the true story about melanoma prostate cancer."

[2:50]" It's funny we've we've we've just of these three cancers because not only there obviously they're not preventable but they're curable. And you can live a long life and we chose. Really -- with most golfers he hits and all golfers relates male female and -- on the -- time and so we were we were just kind of tire seeing people. We we read about every there was someone passes away from from something that's preventable or -- I should -- curable. And and prevention is worth. It's waiting goalless she'll go get checked and so that was really our our our goal at just echo -- words we wanted to get out and and if you listen if if we don't raise a diamond this whole. Tour but one like to say about someone going in getting checked early enough in the Church worth it."

[3:35]" And I forgot to mention breast cancer in their among among those of the cancers what have you learned about. These cancers and what the people need to learn the most about these cancers."

[3:48]" I think number one. What we're trying to get people do -- it's almost like kept going on checking it get your card -- you know or or court. Change in the filters and on your furnace every six months of the people do these things are routine basis. But they don't check their bodies they don't go -- the bodies in the simple testament of blood test. For prostate cancer go to your dermatologist get checked and and go get a mammogram I mean men also passed away I've known to man that passed away from breast cancer so. Obviously it's mostly women but but -- we've learned. -- did as far as melanoma goes it's such a disfiguring disease and and it's so aggressive and so deadly and one and I have a very good friend that that has melanoma cancer and he sets seven. Brain tumors. And and obviously that didn't catch early enough and he's just been struggling and fighting but we see a lot of heroes out there. And our message is going to get checked the hero -- hero for your family and for your friends and for yourself and that's what we're what we're trying to find out."

[4:46]" And -- adieu -- professional athletes and in in all sports but. The golfers in the golf tournaments that I have dealt with I find that PGA the LPGA champions tour. There is more charitable work done and golf. So I imagine as golf course owners you guys pick the sport to do love but also the sport that has a history of donating and raising money for charity more than any of the others."

[5:10]" And I agree we yet I mean you hear people all the time about the class that comes from the game of golf and they deathly give back it's there's it's the message on the PGA tour the charity work that they do the LPGA tour. Every event gives money to to some temperature in it's I think it's part of the class of this game -- offers and is probably why all the other professional athletes and other sports come to play our game. And Craig how is your body going to hold up through all of us -- I hope to get some better shift in you know I've been I've been playing a practice and in Indian prepared in you build billed as a trainer gets ready and and I I drink Red Bull and and eat bananas."

[5:55]" And bill what. What has been even so far the awareness level in terms of the raising the awareness level of -- you guys are trying to do. I think."

[6:07]" If you if you see our bus and you will see our bus it's amazing how many people walked up to just the bus itself. And and and by us going state to state city to city on the interstates all around the country what I've seen already is is that the response for getting. From just our message and an R -- if you look at our bus and you see our our ugly caricatures on that. And our website and a and -- round it's amazing how many people are coming up talking to us about it and I just don't think there's enough awareness and I don't think people really pay attention as much as they should and and -- that these cancers from up on you know hurried and they don't. I don't fool around so once you once I actually have a my my mom's sister passed away from breast cancer about four years ago and she just ignored it and and again. I don't think there's enough awareness I think you just need to pound it and people -- you gotta go get -- if you want to stick around you need to go get checked."

[7:01]" And -- finish -- this and I'll ask you both this. Is this the going to be the first annual 505050 or is this going to be something that. Hopefully will be successful that will make you want to do this now every year."

[7:15]" That's -- ask me after day 45 or six we'll see how that goes but -- it's funny Craig and I that we thought about this being somewhat annual event and maybe we do a fifty instead of fifty municipal courses we get a fifty resorts. And we even had the crazy idea about thirty countries and thirty days and maybe we can do that over in Europe so we will see how this goes let's see how how this. It really is an evolving story and hopefully it's at its biggest we hope that it will be and and we can move forward with it and make this an annual event I don't know about -- Stanley. If they'll put up with him leaving for fifty days at a time but. He's a hero for coming along."

[7:53]" Yeah it's definitely an annual event I think it's some that'll come forward and and and grow and it might not be bill and Craig maybe there will be some other characters that are out there on the road that. You know hopefully it's it's an idea that will grow in and in people's and I want to be part of the fifteenth if it had a lot of people though how alike get to go on the trip and coursing go to our website and do it but. The more support we get this year and if we can get it to start to grow the more likely we're going to do it for many years to come.
